About Us

A white, sullen room. The flourescent lights littered across the room were turned up long past the point of necessity, rapidly approaching the point of blindness. Little Daniel woke up, holding his arms up against his eyes to shield himself against the white light, saying nothing as for why he was in this new, unfamiliar, room.

"Oh, you're awake," a somber man in a white jacket states matter-of-factly. "I know that this must be terrifying for you. I first wanted to let you know that both you and your family are safe and sound, and that I am the emergency care doctor left in your care. You've been immensely lucky to have escaped your burning house as safely as you have; though I regret to say your taste buds have been singed. You will likely never be able to experience food the same way your peers do ever again. I offer my deepest condolences."

That was the series of events Little Daniel told his good friend Sonam. Sonam, still a young middle schooler couldn't fathom not being able to experience food -- to him, food, particularly ramen noodles, was one of life's greatest pleasures, and even to young Sonam's mind, the evens that Daniel experienced were an injustice, a perversion of humanity. While Daniel merely passed it off -- "it is what it is," he would say --, Sonam, in his young mind, was confused, despondent, and angry. "How could such a nice kid as Dan be subject to this kind of torment?" "Why wasn't life fair?"

Throughout high school, Sonam's disposition evolved to be rather similar, at least superficially, to Dan's. While he still harbored internal resentment, gone was that childish befuddlement that was key to young Sonam's anger. He went through high school without much of a hitch, likewise for Dan. But then in November of 2017, he had an epiphany.

Sonam, who just visited the technologically ubiquitous city of Seoul, found himself a couple of hours to kill before his train to Busan. He found himself atop a hill in rural Gyeonggi-do. Vaguely lost in life, he decided to contemplate his experiences so far. As a small gust of wind blew up the side to his trench coat, a vision appeared in his mind, as sudden as a spark of lightning. In that moment, a force of nature or divine inspiration compelled Sonam, as he yelled to the wind. "If nature took it upon itself to deprive Dan of the human experience, then I ought to be the one that imparts the human experience on another!"

And thus began Sonam Ghosh's mission to recreate the human experience artificially, and the start of Music Boi, a utility that is able to parse text as emotion and create music based off of said emotion, just like a "real boi". Built with Wix, Python, Javascript, and React, Music Boi's goal is as a mimicry of humanity, not as a means to replace, but as a celebration of humanity and its accomplishments.
